We can see the GTI and Golf R being living examples of the Golf platform’s capabilities. What if you need a rear-wheel-drive Golf for drifting? Thanks to the efforts of a group of Finnish drift car builders, this possibility is now possible.

Although building a drift car can be difficult, it is possible with a reasonably priced rear-wheel-drive vehicle that can house a powerful engine. This setup is more stable and allows for a longer wheelbase. We love the VW Golf because it has none of these characteristics.

Maailmanlopun, a Finnish drift team with impressive skills and great humor, built the VW Golf featured in this video. Except for the addition of a set o’ aftermarket wheels, the VW Golf exterior looks almost stock. Everything changes when you hear the M60B40 BMW V8 engine delivering a 4.0-liter roar.

This VW Golf is now a Frankenstein BMW thanks to some carefully selected BMW parts from many different vehicles. Although the BMW V8 looks stock, it is powerful enough to drive the small Golf. Rear suspension is custom-built using BC Coilovers.

Although this unique VW Golf sleeper looks like a regular VW Golf, its performance is quite impressive. It’s so satisfying to see smoke escaping from the VW Golf’s rear tires while it’s gliding along a track.
