This is a prelude for the Raptor R?
The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor is now revealed. While it’s a truck many have been eagerly awaiting, we cannot help but notice that it lacks the proper Ram TRX competitor. A V8-powered Raptor R will be coming. It’s also rumored that it will be powered by the same supercharged, 5.2-liter Predator engine found in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s long hood.
This video is from YouTube’s Fast Lane Truck. The channel uploaded the latest upload and pitted the Shelby GT500 against Ram TRX in a drag racing. This is a preview of the Raptor R. It’s not, for a variety of reasons.
The drag race took place on a Colorado winter day that was about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, or a little below zero Celsius. Cold climate and summer tires are not compatible, especially with a rear-driven Mustang Shelby GT500, which produces up to 760 horsepower (567 Kilowatts) or 625 poundfeet (847 Newton meters) of torque.
This worked well for the RAM TRX which delivers supercharged Hellcat power all four corners. It was heavier than the ‘Stang and had less power but won the straight-line race by a mere 1%.
Second, the Shelby GT500 weighs only 4,200 pounds (1.905 kilograms). The Raptor R’s actual weight is not yet available. However, the F-150 Raptor can provide an estimate at 5,750 lbs (2.608 kg). It is possible that the Raptor R will weight around the same as the Shelby GT500, but it would be difficult to say that Shelby GT500’s performance will be comparable to that of the Raptor R.
However, the Raptor R’s power plant has yet to be confirmed. We know that the Raptor R will be powered via a V8 engine and will be street legal. The Raptor R will arrive in 2022.
