The LC 500 might be the next generation of small sedans.
The 2021 release of a V8-powered Lexus IS is expected. However, unlike the compact sedans of the past, this engine will not be reserved for the IS F.
The 2021 Lexus IS 500 will feature the final application of its 5.0-liter V8 according to Allcarnews . The engine is currently found in the -LC 500 and -RC F coupes. It produces 471 horsepower (351 Kilowatts) as well as 398 pound feet (540 newton meters). As we have reported, the next-generation IS won’t get a fully-powered performance model. The IS 500 will likely take a more sporty driving style. The IS will offer exceptional power and a delectable soundtrack, along with reasonable long-distance comfort.
Allcarnews was provided with the information by an anonymous source. We take the claim that an IS 500 exists with a lot of caution. We don’t know anything about the underpinnings for the next-generation sedan. According to the Instagram page, it will be riding on an updated platform with a wider front track and rear track. We have heard it instead use the TNGA N architecture, a rear-drive version Toyota’s modular platform, which is located under the next generation Mirai.
If correct, TNGA could reduce the IS’s weight by a few hundred lbs and make it easier for electrification. This is a key goal of Lexus and Toyota. An agreement with Mazda could be another option. This would make use of the next generation Mazda6’s rear drive architecture (and perhaps its inline-six).
The rumor mill has yet to produce any concrete information, so we are left with conjecture. Although we initially believed that the next-generation Lexus IS would be available by the end the year, it isn’t clear if Toyota has changed its plans in light of the current coronavirus pandemic.
