There is so much to see here.
Many of our readers noticed with delight that Gordon Murray was the one who created the McLaren F1 supercar of the 2020s. His supercar is lightweight, fast, and powerful. It even shares the same layout of the F1’s iconic F1 seats.
Murray is a huge fan of lightweight sports cars. His personal collection proves it. Top Gear’s latest video shows the incredible collection of Murray’s father. The one-hour-long video covers a variety of interesting subjects and vehicles.
Murray begins by explaining the concept and purpose of the location where the video was shot. Next, Murray, a South African-born British designer, talks about the T.50s, his track-only supercar that he has designed. We haven’t had the opportunity to drive it yet but we believe him.
The video features several cars from his collection, including the Mercedes-Benz SLR, which weighs in at approximately 3,527 pounds (1 600 kilograms). This is a very heavy car in light sports cars, but Murray claims that nearly three quarters of his cars are lighter than 1,765 lbs (800 kilograms).
Murray discusses his early years and how he built his first sports car at age 19. Murray was struggling to make ends meet at the time and managed to build his entire car for $275. This video shows Murray’s original instruments, as well as many other Formula 1 cars.
