In an electric future, there will be hot hatchbacks.
Electric cars are extremely fast, as we know. The new Hyundai Infiniti Q5 electric car is fast for the US market with a time of around 5 seconds from 0-60 mph in all-wheel drive trim. These spy shots show that a new Ioniq 5 N with numerous upgrades is being developed.
This vehicle appears to be a typical Ioniq 5 at a glance. The vehicle is completely uncamouflaged so there’s nothing to hide. However, a closer look at the front will reveal a slight design modification for the vents in the lower fascia. This car’s performance is evident in the low-profile Pirelli P Zero tires on its spoke wheels.
We can also see the upgraded brakes behind the wheels. Our spy sources also revealed that this vehicle has a stiffer chassis. This can be a good thing in handling, but it could also indicate that the Ioniq 5N could offer a significant power boost.
What is the power we are referring to? According to our sources, Hyundai has stress-tested Ioniq’s EGMP platform. Some models could have 600 horsepower (447kilowatts). It’s not clear that the future Ioniq 5 N will have as much power, but it would almost double the 320 horsepower (239 kW), currently available in the Ioniq 5. It would allow Hyundai to be a leader in the EV market with 60-mph sprints within the 3 second range. We should not forget that the Kia HTML6, which uses the same platform , offers 576 horsepower (430 kW) and GT trim.
The Ioniq 5 N will be able to provide a slight power boost, so that is at the very least. This is the answer to everyone’s question, but we don’t yet have a time frame. The standard Ioniq 5 will not be available in the US until the fall so a debut in 2022 seems reasonable.
