We currently only have the codename of the company for the EV.
This is the first glimpse at the Genesis EV, currently codenamed JW. Although the exterior is still covered in a lot of paint, it’s clear that the vehicle rides on an electric vehicle platform that Hyundai & Kia are also planning to use.
The Genesis (below), has similar proportions to both of them. Hyundai 45 EV (farther down). This vehicle has a more aggressive, fastback-style rear end than the Hyundai’s much more rectangular hatchback.
The Genesis’ rear beltline is also more sweeping than the 45’s. These differences indicate that the Genesis may have a curvy exterior.
With a black cover, the Genesis engineers completely concealed the car’s front end. The hood is also covered with blocky sections that obscure the car’s actual shape.
Although there are no interior photos, the Genesis is expected to be high-tech. The company would pack the vehicle with features that will allow it to compete against EVs from other brands like Audi and BMW, given its status as Hyundai’s premium brand.
The Genesis EV’s powertrain is not well-documented. According to , the vehicle’s EGMP platform can accommodate a variety battery capacities that could provide a range of 311 mi (500 km) or more. Although the output of this setup is not known, it seems likely that an all-wheel drive layout will be used as it is practically the norm in this class.
The Korean Car blog reports that production of the Genesis EV will begin in June 2021. If this is true, we would expect the unveiling to take place late this year or early next.
