Mitsubishi Revives the Ralliart brand in Japan

This is after more than a decade of hiatus.

Mitsubishi will be bringing back the iconic Ralliart brand. This brand’s high performance and motorsports division, which was shut down in 2010, is being revived. It seems that the Diamond brand is trying to revive the Japanese division after an 11-year absence. This is all in an effort to restore the Mitsubishi-ness of the cars.

The Mitsubishi FY2020 financial report, which was published on May 11, 2021, confirms this news. The financial report also included details about the plans of the automaker in the ASEAN market. But what really caught our attention was Ralliart’s return.

Ralliart, which gained popularity in the 1980s, has been a marquee for Mitsubishi in rally races, including the World Rally Championships. Although details of the revived Ralliart have not been revealed, reports from Japan claim that it will both be introducing Ralliart parts, accessories, and participation in motorsports.

The FY2020 financial report includes images that show the midsize pickup truck Mitsubishi Triton, also known as the Strada in some markets. However, it is not clear if it will be for the current model or the next-generation model due to arrive next year.

As we all know, Mitsubishi has struggled as a company. The Diamond company has announced some realignment for its lineup last year as part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Mitsubishi will focus its efforts in the ASEAN Region and won’t be introducing any new models in Europe. However, a February report revealed that there is a little hope through Renault.

Could Ralliart’s return help the automaker improve its current situation? It will take time to see, but enthusiasts and car nuts can look forward to the motorsports department’s return.
