Both the LS 500, and its hybrid counterpart, offer better acceleration.
The Lexus LS has been updated to be more competitive with the Germans three and a half decades ago. The styling of the flagship luxury sedan hasn’t changed much. Gin-ei Luster is a new fancy color that has a mirror-like texture and is called “extraordinary” silver.
The LS uses the adaptive high beam system that was introduced in the 2019. This makes the headlights look a little different. Lexus also modified the front bumper to create a vertical character line at the corners. The spindle grille houses a large radar sensor module and its washer.
These images show the LS 500 in F Sport specification and LS 500h. Both have mildly updated taillight graphics and a Piano Black trim rather than the chrome trim. A couple of new alloy wheels are available, including a 20-inch set in the F Sport model.
The interior is largely unchanged, but the 2021 LS has a high resolution display for the digital rearview and black controls on the center console and steering wheel. The center console now houses a switch that acts as a shortcut to the 12.3-inch infotainment system, allowing quick access to heated seats and steering wheels. The new infotainment is described as a touch-screen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
Although these changes may seem small, Lexus was focused on comfort. The adaptive suspension was optimized to provide a smooth ride. This has been further enhanced by changes to the stabilizer bars as well as the engine mounts. To increase comfort, even the seat covers have deeper stitch points and low-resilience rubber for the pads. They are now said to be more comfortable than ever and better at absorbing vibrations.
Lexus claims that the conventionally-powered LS 500 has more low-end torque than the LS 500h and a faster gearbox. The hybrid system in LS 500h is quicker to kick in for greater acceleration. Both have the latest Active Noise Control and Engine Sound Enhancement systems to create a quieter cabin.
Lexus Teammate will debut the LS, which features a variety of driver assistance systems including Park Assist, which automatically controls steering, acceleration, brakes, and gear changes. The system’s cameras and ultrasonic sensor help the driver keep the car in its lane and change lanes. It also assists in passing other vehicles.
Lexus Teammate is constantly improving as it supports software upgrades, allowing it to bring new functionality as soon it becomes available.
The LS facelift will be available in Japan starting at the end 2020. International markets will follow shortly thereafter.
