This is the brand’s first ever electrified vehicle. It uses a mild hybrid system.
The Maserati Ghibli hybrid is finally here, after a long teaser campaign. This model is not a second-generation one, but a more complete update to the sports that has been in existence since 2013. The company adopted a mild hybrid powertrain as a way to electrify the business. This is the biggest news.
The engine is a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric supercharger and 48-volt alternator. It also has a battery mounted at its back. It generates 330 horsepower at 5,750 RPM and 450 Newton-meters (332 pounds-feet), of torque at 4,000 RPM. This allows the Ghibli Hybrid to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), and then accelerate to 158 mph (295 km/h).
It reduces CO 2 emissions 25 percent, and it weighs in at around 80 kg (176 pounds) less than the V6 diesel. The rear axle receives power through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Maserati decided to opt for mild-hybrid instead of a PHEV in order to save weight and avoid the need to add a larger battery. It is not lightweight at 1,950kg (4,299 lbs).
Maserati added exterior blue accents to emphasize that it is an eco-friendly version. These include brake calipers and side air ducts. On the inside, the blue theme is accompanied by a correspondent. Ghibli Hybrid is an Italian marque that has given the sedan a slight facelift, including a new grille and headlights. The taillights feature a boomerang-inspired lighting signature and are inspired by the 3200 GT as well as the Alfieri concept.
The cabin features additional changes. The 2021 Ghibli uses an updated infotainment system, Android Automotive, and the display has been increased in size from 8.4 inches to 10.1 inches. The new Maserati Connect program updates and checks the car regularly for issues.
Maserati’s electrification drive is reflected in the Ghibli Hybrid. In 2021, full-electric versions will be available for the next-generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio. In September, the highly anticipated MC20 supercar is expected to be revealed.
