The EV brand plans to launch the sporty EV by 2024
Piech is a name that may sound familiar. Ferdinand Piech was the former chairman and grandson of Ferdinand Porsche. Toni Piech, his son, is now entering the auto business by setting up Piech Automotive in Switzerland. The first product of the company is the fully-electric GT sports coupe. The Mark Zero concept
The GT’s look was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show 2019. The production version of the GT is ready for launch in Europe, China and even the United States.
Style that is timeless
It measures 174.4 inches (4.43 m) in length, 78.35 mm (1.99 m) wide and 49.21 meter (1.25 m) high. It has proportions that are similar to a Porsche 911 (177.9 i.e. 4.519 metries) in length) and has a style very reminiscent Aston Martin.
It is a classic sports car that has a combustion engine under its hood. The long hood pushes the passengers compartment back and follows this ethos. The Astons-inspired front headlights remind me of them. The rear has simple lines and includes C-shaped taillights.
Three Motors for Power
Three electric motors power the supercar in Switzerland. Each one produces 201 horsepower (150kilowatts) and totals 604 HP (450 kW). The rear axle is powered by two of them, while the other drives the front wheels.
This setup can take the coupe to speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds, and to speeds of 124 mph (220 kph), in 9.0 seconds. Piech Automotive estimates that the range is 311 miles (500 km).
Desten, a Chinese supplier, supplied the battery pack for the GT. It can charge up to 75 kilowatts per hour. Piech Automotive claims that the GT can recharge in as little as 8 minutes.
According to the company, the GT weighs in at 3,968 pounds (1.800 kilograms). According to Piech Automotive, this relatively light weight is possible due to the use of pouch cell technology in batteries.
BMW M Pedigree
Klaus Schmidt, who was the former head of BMW’s M Division for more than 30 year, is one of the Piech GT’s designers. His team will be testing the vehicle using two prototypes, in March 2022 or 2023. If everything goes according to plan, production will begin in 2024.
Piech Automotive plans to produce 1,200 GTs each year. In a few months, pricing details will be available. The automaker plans to develop a crossover and sedan after that.
