Ford Promises to Make up the Difference: Ford Built Only 138 GTs in 2017.

It will take longer for all 1,000 GT supercars to be built and delivered.

Ford enthusiasts are still eager to own a new GT supercar. In 2016, the Blue Oval announced its revival, with a limited production run (250 per year) – which resulted in more than a few application video from enthusiastic enthusiasts. It seems that Ford and Multimatic have not delivered on their promises in the first year of production.

According to Motor Authority, only 138 GT supercars were produced in 2017. This is far less than the 250 units the company originally promised. Ford claims that Ford has good reasons for the delay.

The company stated that the supercar was hand-built and will be delivered flawlessly. We built in an extended ramp-up process due to several factors like global homologation testing, supplier constraints, and other factors.

The scale of production can also play a part in the delays, besides exclusivity and care. Multimatic was able to meet a daily goal of 1 vehicle. This was something that had never been done before. Multimatic’s first GT was delivered in December 2016. However, the Canadian company wasn’t able to meet the goal of one vehicle per day until 2017.

Don’t believe that this setback will cause production numbers to drop. A spokesperson for Ford confirmed that the company would not reduce its initial commitment to 1,000 vehicles. Ford claims it will produce the GT for at most four years to make up any shortfall. Only 888 units will be made at the current pace, compared to the three-year promise. The application will be available again in the next year.
