2022 Ford Tourneo Connect Makes Its European Debut As A Rebadged VW Caddy

Two engines, two transmissions and an AWD system available.

We had our first encounter with the next generation Ford Tourneo Connect. These spy photos showed a camouflaged prototype. The disguise was not enough to conceal the fact that the new commercial vehicle will be a rebadged, and slightly redesigned Volkswagen Caddy. The van will make its official debut in Europe three months later. Customers will be able to order the van in the spring.

The most significant design difference between the Caddy Connect and the Tourneo Connect lies at the front. Ford now has a more prominent radiator grille. It is flanked with headlights with integrated Cshaped LED daytime running lamps. There will be three trim levels available to customers: Trend, Titanium and Sport. An Active model also has distinctive body cladding and design tweaks. At launch, there will be ten exterior colors. The cabin is similar to the interior of the new Caddy, with its minimalistic central console layout. Ford does not mention SYNC in the press release. This means that the new Tourneo Connect is powered by Volkswagen’s infotainment program. The entry-level model has an 8.25-inch screen. Titanium, Sport and Active models have a 10-inch display. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is also available.

The engines under the hood are shared again with the new Caddy. The selection includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 115 horsepower (85kilowatts) as well as a 2.0-liter diesel with two power tunes with 122 HP (90 kW), and 102 HP (75 kW). These units are essentially Volkswagen’s TSI (four-cylinder engine) and TDI (four-cylinder engine). All models come standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox. An optional seven-speed dual clutch automatic is also available. The Tourneo Connect will offer an all-wheel drive option for the more powerful diesel engine with a manual gearbox, which is the first time ever.
