Jeep Wrangler Pickup Test Mules Found Very Dirty on The Trail

Jeep’s team wants to make sure the Wrangler-based pickup is capable of enduring the punishments of off-road driving.

Although spy photos of the Jeep’s Wrangler-based pickup, (which is reportedly the Scrambler), have been missing for a while, it was worth the wait. Some new photos taken by the Jeep Scrambler Forum give a great view of the truck working on the Rubicon Trail.

These photos show at least two Scrambler tester mules. The front fender shows the number 258 and one of the trucks has Y-spoke wheels. Black wheels with five slots and a United States Department of Transportation identification on the driver’s door are found on the other truck.

Although both vehicles are camouflaged well, it is clear that Jeep engineers have not taken the time to test them. The fabric covering concealing the body is showing large tears, particularly along the lower part where the pickups are crashing into rocks.

Several commenters on this thread on Jeep Scrambler Forum are also concerned about the truck’s departure angle. The concealment is leaking out of the back. In the image below, the corner of the bumper appears to have been damaged.

This close-up perspective gives you a great view of the pickup’s bed. It’s very large. It appears that there is plenty of space back there for hauling gear into remote areas or for loading mulch bags. Wrangler Unlimited’s passenger compartment is almost identical in size to Wrangler Unlimited’s, so you should have plenty of room.

The powertrain options for the Scrambler are identical to those of the Wrangler. The 3.6-liter V6 will continue to be available with 285 horsepower (213 Kilowatts) 260 pound-feet (353 Nm) of torque. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder with 270 HP (201 kW), and 295 Lb-ft (405 Nm) of torque will also be available. A 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel will be added to the lineup. Jeep will make a hybrid Wrangler but it is not yet clear if electrification will be available to the vehicle.

Wrangler-based pickup is expected to go on sale in 2019,. However, the production model may make its debut before the year ends.
