Do not record any violation of the law.
I would bet that we have all been guilty of speeding at some point. Although it may not have been enough for the police to notice, we all view the speed limit more as a suggestion than a rule, especially with the flow of traffic. It’s unlikely that many people will exceed the speed limit on public roads like William Jefferson, 22 years old, did in his Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Jefferson’s 15 minutes shame resulted from a series of poor decisions. Jefferson did a little speeding last month. This was his first mistake. Then he decided to record the crime. That’s unfortunate decision number two. A seven-minute YouTube video was the final nail in the coffin for doltish behavior. As part of a complaint, the video ended up in North Carolina State Highway Patrol’s hands.
The video shows Jefferson running nearly 130 mph faster than the speed limit for US-1 in Wake County. Jefferson boasts that he has reached 198 mph and holds the camera up to an instrument cluster to display the speed. Jefferson is also seen on what appears to have been a two-lane road, doing more than 100 mph in 40 mph. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
According to ABC 11, Jefferson was arrested by police and charged with reckless driving and street racing. According to ABC 11, Jefferson has a clean record with the exception of a few traffic violations.
If you are looking to speed, head to the track. This is dangerous and can lead to death. Jefferson was speeding at an excessive rate on a deserted highway late at night. But one mistake – a deer, or piece of road debris – could have proved fatal. Jefferson learned his lesson, hopefully.
