The new rubber is available as part of the Performance package. It contributes to strong acceleration.
Customers who purchase the optional Performance package for their 2018 Ford Mustang GT will get an additional helping hand to unleash all 460 horsepower. The car will be equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that allow it to reach 60 mph in “under four seconds.
The Pilot Sport 4S tire was introduced by Michelin at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Michelin announced the replacement for the Pilot Super Sport tire, the Pilot Sport 4S, which will offer a high-performance grip level in wet and dry conditions, as well as a 30,000-mile warranty.
The 4S tires will be available in two sizes on the Mustang GT Performance package: 255/40R19s front and 275/40R19s back. To create this particular version of the tire, Ford engineers took inspiration from the GT supercar as well as the Shelby GT350 to collaborate with Michelin.
Gary Swingle (Michelin tire engineer) stated in a statement that they used all the information from Mustang GT, as well as feedback from professional drivers to create a custom-tuned tire for Mustang GT.
Ford claims that the 4S tire is not available as standard equipment on any other vehicle sold in the U.S. (though it can be purchased in the aftermarket in 35 sizes). The 4S tire will be available on the 2019 G70 sports sedan. It is expected to arrive in spring 2018. Although the 4S tire will be offered on the brand new BMW M5, U.S. availability is not yet confirmed.
The 4S tire also features a “deep-rim protector,” which allows rubber to extend past the wheel’s lip, protecting your alloys against curb damage.
Ford’s 2018 Mustang GT features a 5.0-liter V8 that produces 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet. Ford claims it will be able to sprint from 60 in a mere four seconds if the optional 10-speed automatic transmission is installed.
The GT Performance Package, which costs $3,995, includes Brembo six-piston front brakes and upgraded springs. It also comes with a strut tower brace, limited-slip differential, ABS/stability tuning, and other chassis tweaks. The standard 2018 Ford Mustang GT coupe is priced at $35,095 including destination and optional extras.
Ford states that the Mustang EcoBoost has its own Performance package. However, it will not include the 4S tire. The turbocharged 2.3-liter turbo-four engine produces 310 horsepower and 350 lbft of torque.
