It is impossible to prove anything.
It can be quite trivial to work on cars. We have it all, no matter if it’s a lost 10mm socket, a broken bolt or a missing part. The latest BlindLeadingTheBlind video features a visually impaired mechanic working on his Yamaha R1-powered classic Mini.
It’s not a new idea to put a superbike engine in a Mini. But Simon, the blind mechanic behind this project, is the star of the show. Simon has never worked with an R1 engine before. Amazingly, despite having very little experience with Yamaha’s powerplant, he is extremely familiar with it.
Even with the Mini’s small size, everything works. The clutch has been replaced by a carbon-fiber version. Other major modifications were made to the limited-slip differential in order for it to work with the vehicle’s front-wheel drive setup.
Many bolt-on kits are available to make it easier, as many people have gone crazy enough to put a bike engine in their Mini. This video is no exception. The team chose to use pre-fabricated parts for the engine mounts, and other miscellaneous pieces. Simon’s ability to deal with mechanical parts is remarkable, and it’s a testament to his determination.
This short film, regardless of your ability, is proof that you don’t have to let anything stop you from following your passion. With the support of your friends, and a little self-belief, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. These machines are extremely powerful and we are eager to see the final product.
