Mini plans to become all-electric in 2030. However, a new generation conventional models are being developed before then. For the next generation, will retain the core offerings of the brand, including the convertible. There’s also a Countryman in development. Now is the time to get an unofficial and early look at what this small crossover could look like.
The spy shots confirm that the new Countryman will not be a significant design change compared to its predecessor. Mini will instead adopt an evolutionary approach. This rendering gives a glimpse of what’s to come. Although it is not confirmed, there are rumors that Countryman 2 could be approximately 7.87 inches (20 cm) longer than its predecessor.
The new generation of crossovers will be easier to use, thanks to BMW’s FAAR platform. This is an evolution of BMW’s UKL front wheel-drive platform. The new architecture will offer healthy packaging improvements. This will allow for more space for passengers and cargo, as well as more room in the back. Future customers will find it much easier to customize their cars with a simplified customization structure.
Expect to see the same engine range for the new BMW X1. The plug-in hybrid model will likely be replaced by a fully-electric version, which is very similar in specification to the upcoming iX1. Mini also confirmed that the John Cooper Works, which is powered by combustion, will continue to live to see another generation. There should therefore be a Countryman JCW. All JCW models will eventually be fully electric.
The Countryman will be available for market launch by the end of next season. Sales are expected to start in early 2023. Rumours suggest that the Paceman may make a comeback in a two-door crossover with sloped roofline. However, nothing has been confirmed.
