The livestream will begin at 1 PM GMT/ 9 AM Eastern.
Update: The livestream has ended and the Porsche Mission R is now available! You can read all about it in the Porsche Mission R Concept debut post.
Livestreams aren’t as mysterious as they used to be. We don’t know what Porsche will unveil at the IAA Munich in Germany. Although we have received hints from Zuffenhausen about the showcar being connected to motorsport’s exciting world, there has been no concrete information to suggest what to expect.
The description of the livestream on YouTube describes how Porsche used its motorsport operation to prove its engineering innovations before it was introduced into series production. The new concept car will be a combination of “cutting-edge technology”, and “breathtaking design.”
Porsche provided a teaser image that shows what appears to be the letter M. This tells us that the concept’s name begins with an M and we are tempted believe it to be Mission. Why? “Mission E”, a concept car used at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt, was used to help pave the way towards the Taycan electric sedan.
Porsche already confirmed that a new hypercar will not arrive before 2025, so don’t get too excited about the possibility of an all-electric successor for the 918 Spyder. Although the letter “M” may make people think of the next-gen Macan Electric Vehicle, recent reports indicate that the zero-emissions crossover will be called something else to differentiate itself from the gasoline version.
The Munich-bound showcar could be an all electric sports car that signals the Boxster/Cayman replacement in a few more years. According to Michael Steiner, Porsche’s executive director for development, the company is interested in developing a Boxster electric vehicle concept. It is being developed on a platform that is different from the PPE architecture which will be debuting next year with Macan EV.
The livestream begins at 1 PM GMT/ 9 AM Eastern. We’ll know in no time what is what.
