The appearance package gives JCW customers a taster of the limited-production GP Edition.
Mini showed off its snazzy John Cooper Works GP at the 2019 LA Auto Show. It boasts 302 horsepower (255kilowatts) as well as a stunning body kit, which includes a huge roof spoiler. This Mini is undoubtedly the most striking of all. The 0-60 time is around 5 seconds. However, the Mini shown here is and not JCW GP. It’s actually the JCW GP Pack. This is an appearance package that can be purchased on the standard JCW.
The boy-racer bodywork is not available from the GP. However, the package includes the GP’s Racing Grey metallic exterior and contrasting Melting Silver mirror caps, spoiler, and roof. The finish is further enhanced by the black trim on the door handles, hood scoop and fuel door. 18-inch wheels come with GP center camps. Additional black trim is added to exterior components such as the grille or headlight surrounds. There’s also GP branding on the entry strips.
The GP Pack includes leather seats in Leather Dinamica, a bespoke steering knob with red contrast stitching and additional GP identifiers on the floormats and seats. The automatic gearbox also includes paddle shifters that say GP on the wheel.
The rest of the car is still JCW. The turbocharged 2.0-liter turbocharged engine produces 228 horsepower (170 kW) and is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or an eight speed automatic. The JCW has larger brakes than the standard Cooper and a retuned suspension that makes it more dynamic on the track or on the road. Although it isn’t as fast as the GP, the JCW can go 0-60 in just 6 seconds flat. This makes it a very capable model.
Mini has announced that the JCW GP Pack will be available for purchase in July 2020. The pricing for this sporty package is not yet known.
