Chevy and Maven now allow Uber drivers and other freelancers to rent a Bolt from them for $229 per week.

GM continues to explore the car-sharing market. After February’s partnership between Lyft which promised “thousands of” autonomous EVs on-the road, GM’s car-sharing subsidiary Maven will offer the new Bolt EV for freelancers “independently driving gigs” such as GrubHub, Instacart and others.

At the moment, only residents of California are eligible to participate in the program. It is currently being run live in San Diego. GM will be launched in San Francisco and Los Angeles later this year. GrubHub and Instacart are the initial partners. There will also be ride-sharing services such as Uber, Lyft and Lyft.

Prices start at $229 per week and include insurance (minus deductibles), maintenance and unlimited mileage. The good news is that if renters decide to return their car earlier than one week, they won’t be charged any additional fees. Maven already has more than 100 Chevy Bolts deployed in California and has accumulated more than 100,000,000 miles across its entire GM fleet.

Julia Steyn (Vice President, General Motors Urban Mobility, and Maven) stated that “MavenGig” allows freelancers to make income from multiple sources. “Maven, a smart and innovative platform that transforms the future of shared mobility,” said Julia Steyn, vice president, General Motors Urban Mobility and Maven.

The partnership’s centerpiece, the Chevy Bolt, has an EPA-estimated range 238 miles (383 km). You can also buy a Bolt new for $36,620 if you don’t want to pay $229 per week to rent an electric hatch. You can also check our ” Why buy?” section on Chevy’s new electric vehicle.
