Hongqi H9 Indepth Video Features China’s S Class Rival

Let’s take another look.

It is no surprise that luxury-lovers are spoilt for choice. Most potential buyers have never heard of Hongqi in a market that is often saturated by offerings from Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce. Wheelsboy has recently covered the latest offering by Chinese automaker H9.

Although the Hongqi brand is not well-known, it was covered in an episode by Jeremy Clarkson on The Grand Tour. Despite the polarizing views, quality control problems plagued the vehicle. The H9 seems to have a lot more to offer than its L-series predecessor.

The interior is very well-appointed, despite being less expensive. The mid-spec model lacks features such as a fridge, infotainment screens and massage seats. However, the interior still offers an exceptional experience for rear passengers.

Wheelsboy pointed out that the vehicle’s exterior design is a mix of luxury sedans. On closer inspection, you can see hints of BMW 7 Series as well as Rolls-Royce Ghost in the exterior design. This is not surprising, as Hongqi has hired Giles Taylor, who was previously the head for design at Rolls-Royce.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that the H9 was designed and developed in 2017 and that the bodywork is the work of a Chinese designer, Hongqi. You can make of it what you like, but this vehicle’s origin story doesn’t negate the fact that it is a real answer to more common vehicles of its class.
