You’ll see serious stuff when this baby reaches 80 per cent charge.
October 21, 2015. October 21, 2015. This was the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrived in Hill Valley to alter the past in the fictional Back to the Future. The trio found their past was dramatically altered when they returned to 1985 with the time-traveling DeLorean, which ran on 1.21 gigawatts. This is the story of Back to the Future II. It was released in theaters back in 1989.
Today is October 21, 2021. There’s real-world news in the non-fictional world Porsche that involves 1.21 gigawatts. You won’t travel in Taycan Turbo S. However, the electric supercar has a tendency to challenge the laws of physics due to its blistering acceleration. Porsche wants to remind you that the Electrify America charging networks and European Ionity charging stations offer 1.21 gigawatts combined electricity.
Although it’s not a Porsche-exclusive thing, the automaker did mention it on Back to the Future Day. The creative team also sourced a faithful replica of Doc Brown’s DeLorean from the film for a video and photoshoot together with a Taycan. The DeLorean is the star of the show, with its period-accurate white letters tires and blue time circuits, but the Taycan has a cool reference from the movie. Donald Fullilove, actor and Mayor Goldie Wilson is the man behind the wheel.
He’s sure to be able to take advantage of Porsche’s 30-minute free charging offer, which is available at every stop in the US and Canada for the first three-years of Taycan ownership. The Taycan’s ability to charge up to 80 percent in just 22 minutes means that most owners will not have any out-of-pocket charges during this period. Although Porsche’s Back to The Future announcement is clever marketing for its electric cars, you know what? We love this bit of advertising.
If we could harness all this power and channel it into the flux capacitor ….
