Ford Mustang Mach-E Already Outselling Mondeo In Europe
This is a fact that midsize sedan owners will have to accept.

It is a sad sight to see the Mondeo go. I grew up loving midsize sedans. In late March 2022, the Valencia, Spain, production will end. We can’t blame Ford for putting an end to what was once its most important car in the Old Continent. Although the nameplate has been around since early 1990s, we now see that it is a shadow of what it was when we look at a newcomer in the sales department.

The completely new Mustang Mach-E The electric SUV is becoming more popular in Europe, where it has sold 15,602 units through the third quarter 2021. The Mondeo sold 10,427 units in the same period. This shows that customer preferences are changing. With SUVs still the rage and EVs becoming more popular, the Mustang Mach-E is the perfect product at the right time. Its sports car name and design elements that resemble the pony car are also helping.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Already Outselling Mondeo In EuropeFord didn’t list the Mustang Mach-E in its sales charts during the first two quarters. Instead, the zero-emissions SUV was sold with other “vehicles” such as imports or car-derived vans. It is now available for Q3 2021 results. It generated 10,161 units, almost three times as many as the Mondeo in all three of its body styles: sedan, wagon, and liftback.

As the EcoSport has become obsolete, the midsize Ford model is still the most popular. The subcompact crossover is cheaper, but the Mustang Mach-E, which includes any applicable EV grants, is still more expensive than the Mondeo.

Ford made the right decision to end the Mondeo and redirect its efforts to another EV that uses Volkswagen’s MEB platform. It’s possible that an indirect replacement for the Mondeo could be headed to Europe. However, rather than being a sedan it will likely look like a Subaru Outback-esque model, in the same vein of China’s Evos model.
