Only a little over 1000 horsepower.
The latest BMW 5 Series information has been revealed. It was also shown to the public a few days ago. However, BMW M5 enthusiasts still want the performance version of their seventh-generation midsize sedan. It was teased by Markus Falsch on Instagram with a reveal expected in the coming weeks. However, the future of BMW’s M5 appears electrified. You may be wondering how far in the future. According to Car Magazine, the next-generation M5 will be powered by electric motors.
According to rumors, BMW’s eighth-generation M5 could be the first fully electrified M car. It will be available as either a “Power Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle”, or a full-on electric vehicle. According to internal documents and guesswork, the PHEV will use the same engine as the X8 M. It is a twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8 with a combined output power of 750 horsepower (559kW).
Gen V pouch-type batteries will power the M5 full-electric. Car Magazine noted that they could switch over to Tesla-style round cells for added stability, safety and performance. According to the energy cell, it is capable of storing 135kWh. It can also be connected to a 400V charger which can hold up to 350kW. BMW may also upgrade to the 800V charger used by Porsche and Taycan. The maximum WLTP range is 435 miles. Total power is estimated at 1006 horsepower, or 750kW. It has a 0-62mph time of just 2.9 seconds.
Another member of the M Division R&D Team stated that “The Bavarian Motor Works were latecomers to EV scene, and it is the same for autonomous driving.” Mid-term, ride, handling, and roadholding are our only competitive advantage. The biggest problem is cost. That is why the board has put to rest the projected halo car .
