A few minor tweaks can transform this M-branded beast into a road-ready crossover.
It has been only a few days since BMW introduced the XM Concept. This vehicle has been the topic of much discussion. This large hybrid, which is powered by both internal combustion and electricity, has a maximum of 750 horsepower (550 kilowatts) as well as 737 pound-feet (1,200 Newton-meters) in torque. This is the second M-exclusive BMW model, and it’s already in production.
What will happen when the concept becomes a reality? We have an interpretation thanks to this rendering by SRK Designs. But there is a caveat. The unofficial design is called an iXM and envisions a fully-electric version of the concept. This explains the blue-colored solid grille and the larger front fascia. The final result is still a modified design with components that could make the vehicle road-ready.
This interpretation is certainly representative of the near production theme theme that we’ve seen from many automakers recently. The proportions, prominent body lines, and most details are identical. Although the rendering shows wheels that look more like the concept, it is replaced by something more traditional. However, they are still large 23-inch wheels. For a cleaner profile, the black trim at the beltline has been removed. The concept’s side mirrors have also been mainstreamed. Door handles of the traditional variety are also available.
Although the XM hybrid is powered by a powerful V8 engine, there is no reason to believe that an electric-only version will not be available. We do know BMW will not make any significant changes to this concept before it hits dealerships. This rendering may prove to be very accurate. The street version will be revealed next year. Current plans indicate that XM production will begin in the latter part of 2022, for the model year 2023.
