This SUV is extremely powerful and has 750 horsepower. It also boasts a theoretical range of 30 miles.
In 1978, BMW introduced its first M model: M1. The Bavarian manufacturer also produced the first mid-engined car, the 3.5-liter inline six engine. It produced 274 horsepower (201kilowatts) as well as 243 pound-feet (329 Newton-meters) of torque. BMW’s Concept XM is the second standalone M model, more than 40 years after its first.
Although the Concept XM is technically related to the M1, these vehicles are quite different. The XM, a V8-powered plug-in hybrid crossover, is a powerful, high-riding vehicle with a jaw-dropping 750 hp (551 kW), and 737 lbft (1,100 Nm). This wild concept shows a production version that will debut in 2022. It is likely to be available for the 2023 model years.
With the help of the M Hybrid Drive system, the XM can theoretically travel up to 30 miles (48 km) using battery power. BMW doesn’t give any details about the engine displacement, battery size or straight-line speed. However, you can see it reaching 60 in just four seconds.
The Concept XM is a unique BMW in style, with two large kidney grille pieces at the front. These are the largest kidney grilles ever seen on a BMW, whether they’re a concept or not. These large grille frames have illuminated surrounds, giving it a distinctive presence at night. The slim LED headlights are split into two modules that can be found on each side.
The massive, 14-spoke, 23 inch wheels are a highlight at each corner. These are the largest BMWs, and also line the rear bumper with triangular quad exhaust tips. The ultra-slim LED taillights extend from the trunk lid to the rear fenders. The rear glass has a unique wedge-shaped design with two BMW roundels in each corner. This is a subtle nod to the M1’s badges on the flying buttresses.
The interior of the XM looks just as polarizing and attractive as the exterior. But it is also prettier. The cockpit is designed to be a driver-focused space. It combines vintage-look brown leather and copper accents with carbon fiber to make it a stunning place to relax. The latest iDrive8 version adorns your dash with a huge curved interface that looks as good as ever.
With a bench seat made of aquamarine-colored velvet and diamond-stitched, it creates a relaxing atmosphere for the rear passengers. That’s right, velvet. The headliner also features a unique 3-dimensional prism structure, which is fully illuminated. This creates an interior light show, when combined with ambient LEDs that glow in all three BMW M colours.
For now, the BMW Concept XM concept is only a concept. We’ll be seeing the production version next year. Although pricing is not available, we don’t think the XM will cost much – expect to pay $150,000 for it.
