Mercedes-AMG One-Spy Shots: F1-Infused Hybrid Nearly Camo-Free

It will be in production by next year.

Five years. Five years have passed since Mercedes Benz made headlines in motoring by announcing a street legal hypercar powered with an F1 engine. It was called the Project Oneback in those days, and it has been a very while coming. It is finally here, and these spy shots capture the vehicle in public with just a little camouflage. This is our best view of the production version that we have seen so far.

Wait a minute, you say. Forza Horizon’s poster car, the Mercedes-AMG One. It’s hard to believe that Mercedes has not yet revealed the full-fledged One. The car is shown in the game but it’s not the final version. We don’t know what else might be hiding beneath the camo wrap nor the final specs of the hybrid powertrain underneath the bodywork. These images were graciously provided by Motor.es. Video game model aside, it is still the closest we have come to seeing the hypercar’s 1000-horsepower powertrain in person. Cool LED strips are visible above the corners intakes of the front fascia. They can be used as both turn signals and daytime running lights. The lack of camouflage in the upper half enhances the One’s curves, giving it a more natural flavor than other prototypes.

We suspect that the camouflage on the bottom half of this car is still hiding a few important details. The One should be extremely fast thanks to the four electric motors and the turbocharged 1.6-liter V6. It will not be the fastest hypercar, but it has an estimated 1,000 horsepower. However, aerodynamic tweaks and extensive aerodynamic modifications could make it a world-record holder when it comes lap times. Each of the 275 units will be sold out long ago. We expect those buyers will be eager to try the One. Unless there are additional delays they will have that opportunity sometime next year. We suspect that a final official debut will be soon with thinly disguised prototypes cruising the streets.
