It is the largest MQB-based SUV.
Volkswagen hinted that it would be increasing the size of its SUVs back in April 2019, when it presented the SMV concept at Auto Shanghai, China. Now the production version will debut at the same show. As with all SUVs made by Volkswagen, the name of the Atlas starts with a “T”. In some countries, the Atlas is known as Teramont. The new Talagon is larger than the Atlas in terms of length, width and height.
It measures 5,152 millimeters (202.8 in) in length, 2,002mm (78.8in) in width, 1,795mm (70.6 in), and has a huge wheelbase measuring an astounding 12.000 mm. Atlas The 2,980 mm (17.3 in) is the perfect match. Few SUVs can be larger than the Talagon. Some examples include the full-size American SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
The Talagon was developed by the Chinese VW-FAW joint venture. It is the largest MQB-based SUV of the Volkswagen Group. This platform is used in the MQB A0 configuration to accommodate cars as small and compact as the Audi A1/SEAT Ibiza/ VW Polo trio. The MQB Evo architecture underpins the three-row SUV. It can be ordered with six or seven seats.
Exterior design is based on recent Wolfsburg SUV models. Interior design follows a golf-like dashboard design with floating central console. It has leather upholstery, intricate ambient lighting and a dual-screen setup. The sunroof extends across the top two rows.
There will be several powertrains available. The range-topping model gets a turbocharged 2.5 liter V6 unit that produces 295 horsepower (220kilowatts), and 369 pound-feet (599 Newton-meters). Through a seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, the output is channeled into the 4Motion all wheel-drive system.
The Talagon isn’t the only new SUV that VW introduced in China this week. Auto Shanghai also hosts the fully electric ID.6X / ID.6crozz, along with the Teramont/ TeramontX.
