The WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee would make a cool pickup.

A Gladiator is a must-have for any Gladiator.

We see truck conversions every now and then. Most often, these come from Performance. This company is known for making cool kits to convert a variety vehicles into two-seater pickups. The latest project focuses on the second-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee that ran from 1999 to 2004.

It’s not a bolt-on process, as with other conversions such as the VW Beetle that we featured. The entire top of the Grand Cherokee is removed behind the front seats, along with the quarter panels. This conversion kit includes replacement quarter panels and a B-pillar extension that will close the gap between the seats. It includes a window cut-out and reinforced pillar to keep the Jeep’s structural integrity. Smyth Performance used a Chevrolet Colorado rear window to install this particular build.

This build also uses modified Grand Cherokee taillights at rear. The tailgate is also the same one used by Smyth Performance with its Dodge Charger conversion. Smyth Performance has once again used the Colorado for the third brake lamp. Although the photos show the cute side windows in B-pillars, they can be removed if needed. The stock Grand Cherokee rear bumper remains in place and the mechanicals remain the same.

You can have an amazing off-road truck that is very affordable. The conversion kit is available for $2,490 to early buyers, but the price will rise after 50 have been sold. The total investment is not very high when you consider the cost of a WJ Cherokee, which currently costs around $2,500 in good conditions according to Kelley Blue Book. Although this doesn’t include the cost for cutting, welding and painting parts, it’s not unreasonable to expect a cool truck that costs around $10,000.
