The mighty 6.6 V12 is limitless.
The days of V12 engines are over, even though we don’t like to admit it. The V8 and V12 engines of old are slowly disappearing. V12s are loved for many reasons, but their most important attribute is their performance.
The BMW 7 Series is one of few V12-powered cars available today. The M760Li xDrive has a 6.6-liter twin turbocharged 12-cylinder engine. It sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and an xDrive all wheel-drive system.
The engine’s power output isn’t overwhelming on paper. Although 585 horsepower (436 Kilowatts) is impressive, 627 pound-feet (6850 Newton-meters), of torque and 585 horsepower (436 Kilowatts) are more than most people would need, don’t forget the new generation electric sports cars with well over 1,000 hp (746kW). The M760Li is not slow, but that doesn’t mean it’s inefficient. Let’s see how it performs in real life.
The AutoTopNL channel of YouTube has released a new video showing the V12-powered sedan running at top speed on an unrestricted section in the Autobahn. You can see that the luxorbarge covers all of its factory numbers. They are quite impressive for such an enormous car. It takes 3.91 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), while it takes only 13.54 seconds to go 0 -124 mph (0 – 200 kph).
We saw a speedometer reading 189 mph (304 km/h), but that is not the highest speed. We have top speed runs of the M760Li before, and it can reach 196 mph (361 kph). Perhaps the driver didn’t have the time to run the V12 through its paces.
