Ferrari 812 Competizione A Revealed: V12 Targa With 830 HP

It is joined by the coupe and has the same naturally-aspirated engine that revs up to 9,500 RPM.

Long live the 812 Superfast, GTS and 812 Competizione. Ferrari has now introduced the high-performance coupe with its targa counterpart, after a preview of its V12 supercar. This dynamic duo boasts an internal combustion engine that is the most powerful of any road car made by the Prancing Horse.

The core of the 812 models are a naturally aspirated V12 6.5-liter engine, which produces 830 horsepower and 510 pounds-feet (692 Newton meters) of torque. This is a 30 horsepower increase over the Superfast, while torque has fallen by 19 lb/ft (26 Nm). Full horsepower starts at 9,250 rpm. However, the 12-cylinder engine can be revved up to 9,500 RPM, making it the fastest Ferrari road car.

The 812 Competizione weighs in at 1,487 kg (3,278 lbs) with optional features that lower the weight. The coupe has so much power, but only carries so little weight for a V12 car. It can hit 62 mph (100 km/h), and the 0-124-mph (0-200 km/h), run in 7.7 seconds. It can reach speeds of more than 211 mph (340 km/h).

While the top speed is the same as the 812 Superfast, the sprint to 62 miles per hour is almost the same. The previous model took 2.9 seconds to reach that mark. But the real advantage is the run to 124 miles. After increasing the weight-to power ratio from 1.9 kg/hp to 1.79kg/hp, it’s now completed 0.4 seconds faster.

The 812 GTS-replacing Competizione A performance numbers will follow shortly. You can expect it to be slightly slower than the coupe because of its heavier weight. Ferrari has installed a carbon fiber targa roof to reduce the weight penalty. The roof can be stored in the same compartment as the targa panel when not in use.

Apart from obvious differences in the roofs, the 812 Competizione A has slightly lower flying supports than the coupe. Ferrari claims that the targa roof creates an “sense of aesthetic continuity” with the roll bars once the roof has been raised. You’ll get a body-colored aluminum panel that replaces the Superfast’s elongated, elongated glass at the rear.

Also, the gearbox is a seven-speed dual-clutch manual that has been recalibrated to lower shift times by five per cent. Although the gear ratios were carried over from Superfast, Ferrari claims that they are now sportier. The V12 engine has a maximum speed of 9,500 RPM.

For added agility and aero upgrades, the latest version of Ferrari’s four wheel steering has been integrated in the new Competizione models. This was possible because the Superfast’s four circular exhausts were replaced by a pair of angular tips. They allow for interaction between the exhaust gases, and the diffuser to increase downforce.
