Chevy Corvette Convertible Pace car Will Be Leading At 2021 Indy 500

Another year, another Vette in front.

The 104th Indianapolis 500 was postponed by COVID-19 to August 23. A red 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was the official pace car when cars finally arrived at the Brickyard. The 105th Indy 500 is almost here, and for the second consecutive year, a C8 will be leading the field. The roof is not required this year.

The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe is unveiled as the official pace car of the 2021 race. It will take place on Sunday, May 30, during the traditional Memorial Day weekend. For the 18th time, the Arctic White ‘Vette will be an Indy pace car. All appearances since 1978 have been in yellow and black. It is also the 32nd Chevy to pace the race since 2008.

Steve Majoros (Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing) stated that the Chevrolet team is honored every time they are invited to pace Indianapolis 500. We are certain that the track-capable Corvette Stingray Convertible will be a hit with race fans as it leads the pack towards the Yard of Bricks. We’re displaying Chevrolet’s finest, from the color scheme to the race weekend decals to how safety lighting is cleverly integrated into the nacelles in the convertible Corvette’s innovative appearance, we are putting Chevrolet at the forefront of Chevrolet’s efforts.

Indy’s Bow Tie presence is not an accident. The track has an exclusive agreement with the automaker to supply pace cars and other vehicles for the annual event. 2021 will mark the fifth consecutive year of the Corvette. In 2016, the Camaro led the field. Camaros replaced Corvettes for three consecutive years, 2009-2011, when a Camaro Z28 was the pace car. In 2000, the Oldsmobile Aurora was used as the pace car. The Dodge Viper GTS was the last non-Chevrolet product to replace Corvettes in the field.

It’s quite safe to assume that the new Corvette Z06 will debut this summer.
