Tokyo Auto Salon to Present 2023 Nissan Z One-Off with Retro Cues

Tokyo Auto Salon to Present 2023 Nissan Z One-Off with Retro CuesThe JDM debut of the sports car will be celebrated.

The Z was unveiled by Nissan in August for the US, but the Fairlady Z will make the Japanese market’s debut in January 2022. The RWD coupe will arrive at the Tokyo Auto Salon in a variety of configurations and a unique concept car. We don’t have images of the special version, but we know that the modifications will be a nod to Z’s heritage as well as fan enthusiasm.

The 370Z replacement will be a perfect fit for the show’s “customizing environment” and will feature new exterior styling elements not seen before. It was reported that a newer Nismo version would be arriving at TAS 2022. However, it appears this is not the case. It would have been too soon for a Nismo version considering that the standard Z has not yet gone on sale. We aren’t surprised.

Since the 2023 Z is a unique car, we don’t expect any mechanical changes. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 should produce the same 400 horsepower (298 megawatts) as the 2023 Z. It will also make 350 pound-feet (475 nton-meters). This power can be channeled to the road via either a six-speed manual transmission or a nine speed automatic. We’re betting on a clutch pedal to power the Fairlady Z JDM-spec Fairlady Z headed to TAS. But we’ll wait and see.

The Z road car won’t be Nissan’s only presence at the event. Instead, the refreshed sports car will be sharing the spotlight with the GT500. Along with some concepts inspired by the new Caravan van, the GT-R Nismo special edition is also on display. The Nismo spec Note Aura, along with a pair custom concepts and the Ariya electric crossover, will also be present at the show.

Between January 14 and 16, the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 will be held at Makuhari Messe.
