It is already available from Big-brother F-150 for electric Lightning and hybrid Lightning.
The Maverick Hybrid is the best truck in terms of efficiency. It returns 42 mpg city-wide and 33 mpg highway, for a total of 37 mpg. The Blue Oval has already begun to think of ways to make the compact pickup more eco-friendly by implementing the Power Onboard technology that is available in the F-150 Lightning as well as the F-150 Hybrid. This would allow owners to share the power externally.
It’s not an easy task, however, because the Maverick doesn’t have the same next-gen electrical architecture as the full-size F-150.
Muscle Cars & Trucks Ford Engineering quotes as saying that plans are in place to convert the company’s smallest truck into the required architecture. However, it is not clear when. It is not clear if this will take place during the current vehicle’s lifetime or if Dearborn will wait for a second-generation model.
“We have had conversations about some power to the box being what it is. It could not be a 2.0-kW system. It could be… (with a 4-cylinder engine). The capability is there, especially for the hybrid. We are looking at this and would recommend that you do so. Although it doesn’t have the same engines as the F150, the Maverick’s 2.5-liter engine rated at 191 HP and 155 lbft (210Nm) might still be powerful enough to power your home through the Pro Power Onboard.
MC&T also sat down with Trevor Scott, Maverick’s marketing manager. He also said that Hyundai Santa Cru could be a rival for the role of a mobile generator. “Pro Power Onboard is wildly successful with F Series. We are looking into that. We’re looking at that as we move forward with Maverick.
He said that the 110V outlets can power many electronics. However, the truck would require a larger output to provide energy to a more substantial vehicle, such as a house. The F-150 PowerBoost has been in the news quite a few times due to its Pro Power Onboard. It saved a wedding and also powered a house’s space heater and lamp when the entire neighborhood was dark.
The Pro Power Onboard is not yet available for the Mustang Mach-E, however it is understandable why Ford prioritizes trucks that are more utilitarian. We will have to wait and see if the newly introduced Ranger will include this technology, especially as a hybrid version will be available sooner or later.
