It’s a bit like the Y2K virus that is 22 years late, but only affects Hondas or Acuras.
The Y2K bug, which caused a global panic in 1999, is still causing problems. Thanks to various industries taking pre-emptive steps, there were only a few serious errors as the new millennium began.
Recently, a similar tech problem was discovered. The strange error, unlike the Y2K bug, is not global. It only affects Honda and Acura units with Navi systems.
As we entered the new Year, it was discovered that many old Hondas and Acuras had incorrectly displayed the date and time on their Navi systems. The system’s date shows January 1, 2002 instead of 2022. This puts it 20 years behind.
Owners claim that manual override to adjust date and time isn’t working. Numerous owners have reported the same problem on a variety of forums, including the Ridgeline Owner’s Club and the CR-V Owner’s Club. Reddit is also a popular forum. This issue can affect a variety of cars, from 2004 through 2012!
These errors are reported from many places, including the US, Canada and the UK. Some forum posters include photos from their head units that show the wrong date and time.
It seems that the problem is not with the date or time. According to the owners, their navigational systems and other functions work perfectly.
An owner of Honda in the UK received a different response, informing them that the company was already investigating the problem.
Jalopnik reported that the error could be attributed to the way Global Positioning Systems measures time and the code of the software. Honda has not yet provided a timeline, but owners will have to wait to see if there is a fix. Or when the system automatically corrects itself in August 2022.
