WRC Crash At Monte Carlo Looks Horrific But Everyone Walks Away
Adrien Fourmaux, driver, missed a brake point and sent his Ford Puma plunging down a ravine.

The World Rally Championship’s notorious start has caused more than one death over the years. Mixed surfaces can be very difficult to navigate on the Monte Carlo Rally. This was evident in this terrifying crash that driver Adrien Fourmaux and Alexandre Coria caused at the 2022 event. They walked away, astonishingly.

The accident occurred on the third stage at the 2022 Monte Carlo Rally on January 21. It is being covered by all motorsports and motoring media. While the in-car footage above clearly shows the impact and viciousness of the flips, the Facebook post below from an outside perspective is the most impressive part of this wild ride. This crash was the end of Fourmaux’s and Coria’s event. Our Motorsport.com colleagues report that Fourmaux made a wrong turn at medium speed on the third stage. The car crashed into a rock face. Their Ford Puma Rally1 car flipped on the first hit, but momentum carried it over the road and it continued to tumble down an embankment. It eventually came to rest about 100 feet from the road.

WRC cars in 2022 are not technically World Rally Cars. The top-tier cars are now called Rally1. They feature hybrid power and a new space frame. The new frame and safety cell for the occupants passed without any injuries to Fourmax or Coria. M-Sport was supported by Ford. It was a difficult break for the team, and the debut of a new Puma. But M-Sport would win the day thanks in large part to Sebastian Loeb, a legendary WRC driver. The 47-year-old WRC veteran drove an M-Sport Puma for a single drive and won the overall title. This was his 80th rally win.
