Cadillac Teases a New GTP Prototype that Will Race at Le Mans in 2023

Cadillac has a long history in the racing world. The brand is well-known in IMSA. It won the WeatherTech DPi Manufacturer Championship 2021. While the company defends its title in 2022, it is also looking forward to bigger and better goals. We are getting a glimpse at the new car race car that will be needed to get there. Say hello to Project GTP. Partly, anyway. These teaser photos are our first glimpse at Cadillac’s next racecar. It uses a hybrid system to compete in the new Grand Touring Prototypes (GTP) category. Cadillac Racing and Design is developing the car, while Dallara, a race car manufacturer, is also involved in the project. The luxury brand has not yet provided details about the car’s powertrain. However, a new Cadillac engine package and the GTP common-hybrid system will be incorporated. knows that Cadillac plans to compete against this car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the greatest endurance race. This is on the agenda for 2023. But, before that, the fourth-generation Cadillac prototype will make it’s racing debut at the 2023 Rolex 24 Daytona.

“While the new racecar will take into consideration IMSA regulations and ACO regulations Cadillac’s brand characteristics, which many of them are already seen on our V-Series cars today, will still be immediately recognizable,” stated Chris Mikalauskas (lead exterior creative designer at Cadillac). It will be able to artistically combine form with function, which will influence the design of the new race car. Cadillac brand elements such as floating blades and vertical lighting will be evident throughout.

The teasers images show some similarities to Cadillac’s Daytona Prototype, which won the championship last year. The Project GTP is more slouchy, but Cadillac will officially unveil the car later in the year. Project GTP, if everything goes according to plan will mark Cadillac’s return Le Mans following a 21-year absence.
