2022 VW Virtus Confirmed As An Affordable Compact Sedan for Emerging Markets

Yes, the old sedan is still in use in certain parts of the globe.

In India, Skoda launched the all new Slavia in November 2021. Now Volkswagen follows suit with the similar Virtus. Skoda has adapted the MQB-A0-IN platform to the second-generation sedan for India and other emerging markets. It’s not surprising that the two have the same wheelbase of 2,651 mm (104.3 inches).

The new Virtus measures 4,561mm (179.5in) long by 1,507mm (59.3in) high. It is slightly longer than the Slavia, but has a width of 1,752mm (69in). Both compact sedans share the same 521-liter trunk and most of the interior cabin. The latest VW sedan, which replaces the old Vento in India has different front and rear fascias to the Skoda. However, the side profile reveals its true identity.

We won’t see either one of these cars in Europe, as we will not be able to buy the Dacia Logan small budget sedan. Skoda does offer a Rapid sedanon Old Continent but it is only available in Russia.

The 2022 Virtus will be sold in India by VW India. It comes in Dynamic Line with the familiar 1.0 TSI motor and a more powerful Performance Line with the 1.5-liter unit with cylinder deactivation technology. The three-pot mill produces 115 horsepower and 175 Newton-meters (129 pounds-feet), while the four-cylinder engine generates 150 hp (184 lb.ft) and 250 Nm (250 nm). The Slavia also has the same powertrains, it’s not surprising.
