The final name of the project is still to be determined.
We shared earlier this month a report by a British outlet on Toyota’s plans for launching a new compact crossover to the European market. The automaker just announced the launch of an unnamed high-riding model.
Toyota explains that the vehicle will be built on the GA-B platform which is the foundation of the new Yaris. The crossover will not be a modified hatchback, as Toyota wants it to have a unique look and construction.
Matt Harrison, Executive Vice President for Toyota’s European Business, states that “you won’t need to wait too much to see the final designs, and you’ll see that this model is not just a Yaris equipped with body cladding, raised suspension, and body cladding, but an entirely unique B-SUV model with a small, dynamic design and personality all its own.”
The first sketch of the crossover is shown with the announcement. It will likely have a muscular appearance, and be slightly larger than the Yaris. It won’t likely be larger than the CHR, as last week’s report suggested that it would be below the CHR in terms price and dimensions.
Toyota has stated that the new crossover will be launched later in the year. Production will take place at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), Onnaing near Valenciennes. We will announce the name, volume plans, pricing and the date of the market launch closer to the on sale date.
Harrison says, “This model will contribute to the success of Yaris Europe and together we expect these cars will account for about 30 percent of the Toyota Europe sales volume by 2025.”
