The all new Volkswagen Touran made its debut online last week and was unveiled at Geneva Motor Show.
The new Touran, despite being 130mm longer than the predecessor, is actually 62kg (136 lbs) lighter when it uses the MQB platform. The new Touran will be available in 5- or 7-seat models and Volkswagen claims it has the best cargo capacity at 1,040 liters (+48 Liters). The trunk can be folded flat to store as much as 1,980 Liters of luggage.
The 2015 Touran’s design is simple. It adopts an evolutionary design that creates a pleasing styling, while still maintaining the compact shape appropriate for an MPV with a large cabin. The more attractive R Line specification will make it available, bringing interior and exterior styling enhancements.
The new Volkswagen Touran will be offered with a variety of gasoline and diesel engine options, including a 1.2 TSI that produces 110 HP, a 1.4 TSI that produces 150 HP, and a 1.8 TSI that produces 180 HP. On the diesel side, there will be a 110 HP 1.6 TDI, and a 2.0 TDI that produces 150 HP & 190HP. The engines are all equipped with a stop/start system, which allows the people carrier to be as efficient as the model it replaces.
Customers can choose from five different infotainment options, with the three most popular offering Apple Car Play and Google Android Auto, as well as MirrorLink. An optional electronic voice amplifier system is also available. This includes a front-mounted microphone that can be used by the passenger or driver to relay speech to the rear seat occupants via the speakers.
Volkswagen will take orders for the new Touran in the summer, while deliveries will begin in 2015’s second half.
