Statistical data is only slightly different in the States.
The Kia Ev6 is the first vehicle from South Korea that has been built entirely from electric motors. The EV6 was launched in a huge global debut in March 2021. However, Kia today offers insight into the EV6 destined for the US market. It’s the same EV6 as you will find elsewhere, but it has some interesting differences for US customers.
The main point to note on the performance side is that Kia lists an estimated maximum range of 300 miles. This is compared to 316 miles per WLTP standard mentioned in the global debut. Kia doesn’t mention an EPA rating so an actual figure is yet to be determined. The GT’s range-topping power will be powered by dual motors that produce 576 horsepower (430kilowatts) each and all four wheels. This is enough to propel the EV6 GT from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Three other less-powerful variants will join the GT, beginning with a rear-wheel drive model packing 167 horsepower (124 kW). The upgraded RWD EV6 will be equipped with a larger battery and 218 hp (162 kW). It will then be joined by the AWD EV6 which has dual motors that produce a total 313 hp (323 kW) and a 0-60 speed of 5.1 seconds. The EV6 First Edition will be the first to go on market. It will only be 1,500 units in production and come in unique color combinations. The EV6 First Edition will come with all-wheel drive. However, Kia has not specified if it can get the GT’s blistering performance. The First Edition will open for reservations on June 3.
The EV6’s patented multi-charging system supports both 400v and 800v charging. The fast charger can add 70 miles to your range in just five minutes, while 210 miles takes only 18 minutes. The EV6 also features Vehicle-to-Load functionality. This means it can be used as a large mobile battery that has 110-volt outlets to charge any standard plug. The EV6 is capable of charging other electric vehicles at 1.1 kW. This is equivalent to using a standard 110 volt charger.
The EV6’s interior features a 12-inch integrated center cluster and infotainment screen. It is a large, curved display that dominates your dash and is extremely technological. The EV6 is standard with 21 driver-assist safety and safety systems. Advanced features such as an augmented reality head up display are also available.
“The EV6 is a new era in Kia electrification,” stated Sean Yoon, president of Kia North America. “This new crossover takes advantage of the many advantages of its advanced platform to provide an unparalleled ownership experience.
The EV6 will be available in South Korea’s market later in the year. However, First Edition reservations will open in June. US buyers will need to wait until 2022 before they can get behind the wheel. The GT model, which is the most powerful and versatile of the EV6 models, will be available for delivery in the early part of the year. It will arrive in the middle or end 2022.
