It’s almost like putting a leash around a wild animal.
The most popular tuner Hennessey Performance has produced some of the most powerful and powerful cars on American soil. However, that does not mean its products are restricted to the US. A Finnish dealership is actually selling a Hennessey Mammoth1000. However, the Ram TRX on steroids can only go up to 56 mph (90 km/h) on Finnish roads.
NettiAuto sells an orange Mammoth1000 TRX (not pictured) for EUR249900, or approximately $277,000 at current exchange rates. The listing includes all the upgrades that the Hennessey monster trucks have in the US. However, the ad mentions a top speed only of 58 mph (93 km/h).
The regular RamTRX can travel at speeds up to 118 mph (190 km/h), so it’s reasonable that the Hennessey tuned truck, which is 1,000 horsepower, should be able to go even faster. So why is the limit on the truck sold in Finland? The European country’s tax loophole is the key to the answer (hat tip The Drive).
The Mammoth TRX’s gas-guzzler nature means it is subject to a 44.8 percent Finnish tax when it is registered as a five-seat passenger car. Its gross weight of 7,802 lbs (3,539 kg), however, places it in the N2 category, which allows it import and registration without having to pay the high import tax.
If N2 vehicles are to be used on roads, they must have a speed limiter as a member of EU. This device must limit the vehicle’s speed to 55 mph (90 km/h), which may be slightly less than what Netti Auto states on its listing.
This news is devastating for anyone from Finland who’s been eyeing the Hennessey Mammoth 1000TRX. You can look at the bright side, though – you won’t be ticketed for speeding on the highway with this American monster truck.
