It will be available for purchase in late June as a “coupe”.
It has been just over two years since Porsche introduced the Cayenne Coupe. Zuffenhausen is already weeks away form introducing an updated version. At the end of next month, the entire Cayenne family will get a trim. The main novelty will be an additional member of the Coupe lineup. We don’t know the name, but it will be sold with the Turbo version of 542-horsepower.
Autocar learned from Porsche that the Cayenne Coupe packs an additional 89 horsepower for a total of 631 HP. This is still less than the 671-hp turbo S E-Hybrid but 10 less than that of the Lamborghini Urus. You might be wondering if the Zuffenhausen member will merge with Sant’Agata Boolognese’s Super Ute. Why? The Urus will be getting a facelift that is expected to increase its oomph.
Porsche will only be selling the new variant in the Coupe version. This is due to the coupe’s lower center of gravity. According to Rico Loscher, the Cayenne’s chief engineer, it is lighter than the previous model. The flagship model will feature a lighter active aero pack made of carbon fiber and larger air ducts to cool down the twin-turbo V8.
Porsche is also changing the roof-mounted spoiler. It is now installing a diffuser with centrally located dual exhausts, similar to the GTS Coupe equipped with the optional Lightweight Sport Package. Software engineers are working on changes to the eight speed automatic transmission and all wheel drive system in order to work with the new 4.0-liter engine. This engine now has 626 lbft (850 Nm) or 60 Lb-ft (880 Nm).
Autocar claims that the Cayenne Coupe can go from 0 to 62 mph (1100 km/h), in between the 3.6 seconds of a Lamborghini Urus or the 3.8 seconds required by the Audi RS Q8. When an electronic top speed limiter kicks in, the Cayenne Coupe will reach 186 mph (300 km/h). The coupe-SUV’s new specifications will be equipped with standard 22-inch alloys and the largest tires ever installed to Cayennes. They measure 285/35 ZR22 at front and 315/30 ZR22 at rear.
Porsche will make changes to the air suspension in order to improve handling. This will be further enhanced by improvements to the rear-wheel steering system and active anti-roll stability systems. The carbon-ceramic brakes, which are optional on the Cayenne regular model, will be standard on this new version. It is expected to weigh less than 2,200 kilograms (4.850 kilograms).
The Urus and RS Q8 are not its only rivals. It will also be up against the Bentley Bentayga Speed which has a larger 6.0-liter W12 motor that produces 626 hp.
