Ford F-150 Lightning could be difficult to buy in base trim: Report

There are also other financing options available.

Ford’s new F150 Lightning electric pickup won’t be available for purchase until at least one year. It doesn’t stop people from discussing pricing, financing, availability, and more. Cars Direct has all the answers.

Ford made EVs a lot more affordable by announcing that its full-size AWD quad-cab Lightning would cost less than $40,000. We did some research on electric vehicle tax credits, and found that the Lightning could cost less than $30,000 in certain states. We all know that automakers love to promote base-price vehicles even though they are nearly impossible to find. According to a Cars Direct Report, Lightning could be the same.

The base model, the F-150 Lightning Pro, starts at $39974. Its primary purpose is to be a work truck. This model is aimed at fleet and commercial buyers. It’s not that the average Joe cannot buy one. However, as is the case with entry-level no-option models, production is usually low because buyers want a little more style in their new car. Commercial and fleet buyers will take the Lightning Pros in their base models. This means that truck owners will need to order trucks to get a rock-bottom price.

This is where things could get more complicated. Ford will offer an extended-range Lightning Pro for a price increase of $10,000. This Lightning Pro has a maximum range of 300 miles and a maximum output of 563 horses. This raises the price to $50,000, which is still affordable for many F150 buyers. Another Cars Direct report says that this Lightning Pro version will only be available to commercial buyers.

If this is the case, you can only get an F-150 Lightning that has full power and range by getting an XLT instead. The trim starts at $52,974, but it is not clear if it includes the extended range or full power. Buyers could pay as little as $60,000 for an electric F-150 that has the maximum range and power Ford offers.

The Blue Oval may offer the Lightning its Ford Options Plan. It’s a combination of standard financing and leasing, where the buyer pays lower monthly payments than a typical finance plan. If the buyer prefers, the final payment can be a large balloon payment or the vehicle can be returned directly to Ford Credit. This is currently offered by Ford on the Mustang Mach–E, and Cars Direct. It will also be available on the Lightning.

There’s still time for all of this to change. We are less than one week away from the F150 Lightning’s debut, and we still have one year to deliver our first customers. This is provided that there are no additional production delays caused by COVID-19, shortages of computer chips, or other global issues that could cause further disruptions to manufacturing.
