It is not as it appears.
On Thursday, June 24, the hybrid V6 supercar Ferrari was unveiled. But it won’t be the last addition to the stable. In 2022, a completely different breed will be introduced. This strangely interesting test mule, shot by , has been seen on Maranello’s streets looking very familiar. Although the Maserati body may look familiar, the underneath is a completely different vehicle.
This vehicle is still in development and rides lower than the rest. There are huge gaps in its rear bumper, where quad exhaust tips indicate that the Purosangue has serious power. We’re seeing the Ferrari SUV as a little smaller and more athletic than its predecessor, the Levante. This should be realized once the prototypes are completed.
First announced in September 2018,, Purosangue (Italian word for “Thoroughbred”) is a new concept that Ferrari claims will “redefine expectations.” The new front mid-engine architecture will support a four-wheel drive setup and hybrid powertrains. Variable ground clearance is likely to be achieved by air suspension.
The underpinnings can also be used to support different wheelbase lengths and seating arrangements, including a full-fledged four-seat cabin for the Purosangue. According to a slideshow published by Ferrari almost three years ago, the SUV will get a rear-seat entertainment unit inside a spacious and comfortable cabin.
The new Ferrari models, including the Purosangue, will be offered with multiple powertrains that combine high specific power output with an electric motor. A Lamborghini Urus competitor to the Aston Martin DBX is expected to be available in V6 and V8 versions, with a possible V12 version that could compete against the Bentley Bentayga Speed.
Ferrari’s longer hood than a Levante suggests that it will be able to fit a 12-cylinder engine. The Italian peeps are confident about this. The naturally-aspirated powerhouse has still plenty of life in spite of increasingly strict emissions regulations. The engineers can extract more horses from the 812 Competizione than the 830 horses , though such an application is probably reserved for hypercars.
Ferrari will probably begin road testing its first SUV with the final production body soon, ahead of an official unveiling in 2022.
