The combined horsepower of the family sedan and pickup truck is 1,499
In 2015, the Dodge Hellcat engine was born from the depths SRT. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s 840-horsepower Dodge Hellcat engine was the ultimate form of this engine. However, that model is no more in production. It continues to power the Dodge Charger Redeye as well as an unlikely companion, the Ram 1500 TX. Fast Lane Truck YouTube channel brought both Hellcat-powered vehicles to the drag strip for a quarter-mile race.
Although both vehicles are powered by a supercharged, 6.2-liter V8, they are tuned differently. The Charger produces 797 horsepower (594 Kilowatts) as well as 707 pound-feet (958 Nm) of torque. All of this power is routed to the rear wheels. The Ram produces 702 horsepower (523 kW) but 650 lbft (881 Nm), which is less. The only benefit is that it routes power to all four wheels. However, it’s almost 2,000 pounds heavier than the family sedan.
In the first race, the Charger takes the lead and the TRX can’t catch up. The truck covered the quarter-mile at 100.88 mph (162.35 km/h) in 13.758 seconds. The Charger completed the quarter-mile in 12.421 seconds at 116.55 mph (188.7 kph). The Ram has a better start in the second race and is the first to the finish. The Charger manages to reel in the TRX and passes it well before the line. The Charger finished its second race in 13.131 seconds, at 117.91mph (189.76 km/h). The TRX completed the race in 13.821 seconds at 100.97 mph (162.50 km/h).
These times are fast considering that the race track is located at about a mile above the sea level and the ambient temperature on the day is in the 90s. This is not an ideal combination for vehicles. It’s clear that the Charger is fast and the TRX is fast. They are both a family sedan with 1,499 horsepower and an off-road pickup with 1,499 horsepower. It’s a great time to be alive.
