Volvo Trucks seems to enjoy putting its presidents into precarious situations just for the sakes of advertising. Volvo’s ” the Hook” was a scene in which Claes Nilsson, then president of Volvo Trucks, stood at the Volvo FMX while it was suspended from a crane several hundred feet above the ground. Volvo Trucks is back in action, with Roger Alm, the current Volvo Trucks president, sitting on top of a Volvo Truck, which is on top three other Volvo semis. It’s a quadruple-stacked semi sandwich.
Today’s YouTube ad features four new Volvo Trucks models: Volvo FH, Volvo FH16 and Volvo FMX. This is ahead of the official launch. This is Volvo Trucks’ biggest launch yet, with these four models accounting for around two-thirds the deliveries.
Imagine yourself in the meeting where someone suggested stacking four Volvo semis onto one another, then placing the president on top. The truck tower is real and stands 15m (49ft) high. It weighs in at 58 metric tons (127 868 pounds). The truck tower and Alm on the top were both real. It took approximately a month to create the ad before it was shot at a test ground near Gothenburg in Sweden, late 2019.
“I’m used being on top of things but shooting the truck tower was certainly an unusual day at work for me. Let’s just say that I have a respect for heights. Alm said, “I’m a down-to-earth guy.”
Volvo Trucks is able to create commercials that are more than you would expect from a commercial vehicle manufacturer. Volvo Trucks demonstrated Volvo Dynamic Steering in 2013 with Jean-Claude Van Damme, an actor, doing splits atop two Volvo FM trucks’ side-view mirrors. What’s next for Volvo Trucks A commercial for the moon?
