689-HP Mini with Honda Engine and CR-V AWD Loses the Third Gear

There is a perfect Mini Cooper.

What would you do if your transmission blew? This was all part the plan for this crazy Mini Cooper build. The stock engine and drivetrain are gone from this Mini Cooper. It is now powered by a Honda K-Series engine with an all-wheel-drive system derived from a CR-V SUV. It’s a very fast Mini Cooper that can handle more power than its transmission, but it’s okay, the owner has a plan.

What happens when you convert a Honda 2.4-liter K-Series Inline-4 engine into a Mini Cooper This video shows some very positive results, but there are still a few pieces to this unusual formula. To match this incredible build, you will need a 68-millimeter turbocharger as well as an all-wheel-drive system for a Honda CR-V.

The 689 horsepower Mini Cooper that resulted is a joy to drive and too powerful for its stock Mini transmission, which the owner actually blew while he was taking pictures. His reaction was quite cool. He calmly said, “It’s okay I have a box for dogs at home.”

This one is a truly impressive build. It can spin all four Hoosier tires. The owner not only added a new engine to his Mini but also discovered a way to make it all wheel drive. It is amazing to see all this engineering in such a small and well-executed package.

The car’s smiles prove that it was worth the effort. The owner has already started work on a new Mini Cooper, with a stronger transmission that can handle the extra power of the K24 engine. We are eager to see it go on the road.
