New Mercedes GLC Spy Shots Capture PHEV Model Out Testing

The 2023 model year is when the model is expected to arrive.

Mercedes has begun work on the next-generation GLC Class crossover. It will come with a variety powertrains underneath. Our Motor.es friends captured it again during testing. Although the spy shots look similar to the ones we have seen, it is the underside that really matters.

The GLC line already offers a PHEV option. This is expected to continue for the next generation. The GLC PHEV received a minor update for the 2020 model years The crossover received a larger battery pack (8.7 kilowatts to 13.5) and a new, 7.5-kW charger onboard. This doubled the electric range to around 30 miles in Europe. Both of these figures are likely to improve with the next-generation model. The current GLC PHEV has a combined output power of 315 horsepower (234 kilowatts), and 516 pound feet (700 Newton-meters) torque.

It is difficult to see the next-gen GLC PHEV’s styling as it continues to wear a camouflage wrap and cladding. It is almost identical to other GLC test cars that spy photographers have seen out in the wild. It is expected that the PHEV will have the same design as the rest, with a few PHEV-exclusive touches and tweaks. Spy shots show cutouts for fuel or charging doors on both rear-fenders.

The GLC PHEV version is not expected to arrive until 2023, but the updated GLC will be available sometime in the future. We believe that the GLC PHEV is still a few months away from its full glory due to its thick camouflage and cladding. Because it rides on Modular Rear Architecture, the brand will lower the vehicle’s weight in order to offset all the tech. The GLC PHEV is slightly larger than its predecessor.
