For anyone over 15 years old, 40 events will take place across the country.

This is a huge win for those who worry that “old ways” will be lost in an era of autonomous and electric vehicles. Hagerty’s classic car experts have teamed up with Skip Barber Racing School in order to host 40 events that will cover a wide range of driving skills across the United States. The Hagerty Driving School Powered by Skip Barber Racing School is the name of this program. However, it’s not your standard race-based curriculum or preparation for driving exams. The exercises include emergency maneuvers and skid control.

Hagerty CEO McKeel Hagerty stated that while it is rare for anyone to teach driving a manual transmission, they believe it’s an essential skill for all drivers. We also believe they should have experience with crash avoidance techniques, which Skip Barber Racing School is a great teacher. Safety, education, and fun are the main goals of this partnership.

The Hagerty Driving Academy aims to teach people how to drive cool cars and also teach them techniques. Participants will be able to practice their skills behind the wheel in “fun cars” during the events. A press release about the program, which you can see below, states that participants will get to drive a variety of classic cars.

Anyone over 15 years old can apply, but young drivers under 18 must have parental consent. The first event will take place at Sebring International Raceway, Florida on April 3, and costs $995. However, if that seems a little too expensive for you, there are four other events throughout the year that are completely free to Hagerty Driving Club members. The club membership costs $45, which is a great deal for serious fun and not too much.
